Five Fun Fall Events in the Big Easy

Fall is one of the most exciting times for those who live in New Orleans, with festivals, celebrations, and other fun events. Residents and visitors alike will love these five can’t-miss autumn activities in the Big Easy.

Oktoberfest

It’s brews, bands, and bratwurst at the city’s largest German event of the year, set to kick off on October 12 and last for three consecutive weekends. The celebration is organized by Deutsches Haus and includes authentic German food, music, and beers, as well as a stein-holding competition held every day of the event.

Jazz in the Park

Thursday evenings this fall, stop by Louis Armstrong Park for free live jazz performed by local artists on the backdrop of a gorgeous sunset in the same area where jazz was born. With excited crowds, live art displays, and food vendors, it’s the perfect low-key evening for the entire family in walking distance from the French Quarter. While exploring the area, take time to enjoy the rich history of traditional New Orleans homes.

New Orleans Film Festival

This is the perfect year to attend the New Orleans Film Festival, now considered an Oscar-qualifying event after it launched the film Twelve Years a Slave. The October 14-21 festival will screen more than 170 different films and host special events with dozens of producers, directors, writers, and actors, so check out the program to make the ideal itinerary.

Krewe of Boo

Where better to celebrate Halloween than in the world’s most haunted city? The city’s official Halloween parade on October 24 doubles as the year’s (second) biggest party, with thousands of costumed revelers, incredible floats, local dancing troupes, and of course, plenty of candy.

Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival

At this free event in Lafayette Square, attendees will have the chance to try delicacies from the city’s finest barbecue vendors, along with two stages of music by legendary blues performers Ruthie Foster, Marcia Ball, and Jarekus Singleton.

These festive events give locals and tourists alike the chance to experience the true character of New Orleans, from historic architecture and iconic cuisine to the spirit of fun that permeates the city streets.
